Safety is the core operational metric at Romygo. We do not view safety as a reactive measure; it is a proactive infrastructure built into every layer of our technology and physical operations across Romania. These In-Depth Safety Guidelines outline the mandatory procedures, technological safeguards, and emergency protocols required for all platform operations.
Compliance with these guidelines is mandatory for all active Romygo Drivers and Riders.
1. Technological Safety Infrastructure
The Romygo platform is engineered with advanced security features designed to prevent incidents before they occur and provide immediate support when they do.
- Live GPS Telematics: From the moment a ride is accepted to the moment the passenger exits the vehicle, the trip is continuously tracked via GPS. This data is securely logged on Romygo servers to ensure full route accountability.
- Emergency SOS Integration: The Romygo app features a prominent, in-app SOS button. Activating this button immediately dispatches your live location to local Romanian emergency services (112) and alerts the Romygo 24/7 Critical Response Team.
- Algorithmic Anomaly Detection: Our backend systems monitor every active ride for irregularities. If a vehicle makes an unexpectedly long stop on a highway or severely deviates from the optimal route without the Rider updating the destination, our system automatically triggers a wellness check to both the Driver's and Rider's phones.
- Number Masking: To protect user privacy, Romygo utilizes VoIP number masking. When Drivers and Riders call or message each other through the app, their actual personal phone numbers remain completely hidden.
- Verified Ride PIN: Riders can enable a feature requiring them to provide a unique 4-digit PIN to the Driver. The Driver must enter this PIN into their app before the trip can officially begin, guaranteeing the Rider is entering the correct vehicle.
2. Driver and Vehicle Security Standards
Drivers are the physical guardians of the Romygo ecosystem. We enforce strict standards regarding who is permitted to drive and the condition of their vehicles.
- Pre-Onboarding Background Checks: Before a Driver is activated, they must pass a comprehensive screening. This includes verifying a clean Romanian driving record and cross-referencing criminal databases to ensure no history of violent crimes, sexual offenses, or severe driving infractions.
- Mandatory Vehicle Inspections: Vehicles must pass a rigorous mechanical and safety inspection, in addition to holding a valid Romanian Periodic Technical Inspection (ITP) certificate. Vehicles with deployed airbags, severe structural damage, or malfunctioning seatbelts are permanently banned from the platform.
- Fatigue Management System: Drowsy driving is a critical hazard. The Romygo app automatically enforces a mandatory offline rest block after a Driver has accumulated 12 hours of active driving time within a 24-hour period.
- Distracted Driving Prevention: The Driver app is designed to minimize manual input. Drivers must use a dashboard or windshield mount for their mobile devices. Handling the phone while the vehicle is in motion is a strict violation of Romygo policy and the Codul Rutier.
3. Rider Safety Responsibilities
Riders are active participants in platform security and must take personal responsibility for their safety protocols.
- Verify Your Ride: Before opening a vehicle door, Riders must visually confirm three things: the vehicle's make and model, the license plate number, and the Driver's face against the photo provided in the app.
- Safe Pickup and Drop-off Zones: Riders must request stops in legal, well-illuminated areas. Do not request a pickup on a high-speed road, in a no-stopping zone, or in an area that forces the Driver to block active traffic.
- Riding Solo and Nighttime Safety: When riding alone, especially at night, Riders are encouraged to sit in the back seat. This provides personal space for both the Rider and the Driver and allows the Rider to safely exit from either side of the vehicle depending on traffic flow.
4. Emergency Response Protocols
In the event of an emergency, users must follow these immediate, step-by-step procedures.
In Case of a Traffic Accident:
- Ensure your physical safety and move to a secure location if the vehicle is in a hazardous position.
- Call 112 immediately if there are any injuries.
- Use the in-app reporting tool to notify Romygo of the crash so we can dispatch support and log the incident for insurance purposes.
- Do not leave the scene until local authorities have cleared you, unless your physical safety is actively threatened.
In Case of a Medical Emergency:
If a passenger or driver experiences a sudden medical crisis (e.g., heart attack, seizure), the Driver must safely pull over immediately and call 112. The ride must be terminated in the app to alert Romygo support.
In Case of a Security Threat or Assault:
If either party feels physically threatened or is subjected to violence, they must use the SOS button immediately or call 112. Flee the vehicle if it is safe to do so. Romygo will immediately suspend the accused party's account pending a full investigation and will provide all GPS and user data directly to Romanian law enforcement.
5. Specialized Safety Scenarios
Severe Weather Conditions: Romania experiences harsh winter conditions, including heavy snow and ice (polei). Drivers are required to equip their vehicles with appropriate winter tires as mandated by law. Drivers have the right to cancel rides without penalty if they assess that road conditions are too dangerous to navigate.
Unaccompanied Minors and Vulnerable Passengers: Drivers must not transport unaccompanied minors under the age of 18. If a Rider is requesting a trip for an elderly or disabled relative, the Rider must ensure the passenger is capable of traveling independently or must accompany them on the journey.
6. Reporting and Accountability
6.1. Post-Ride Safety Audits
Users who give a ride a rating of 3 stars or below are prompted to select specific reasons (e.g., "Unsafe Driving," "Vehicle Condition"). These reports are instantly flagged for manual review by our Trust and Safety team.
6.2. Zero Tolerance Enforcement
Any verified reports of physical violence, sexual assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, or severe reckless driving will result in an immediate, permanent, and irrevocable ban from the Romygo platform.
